Enhancing Fishing Access and Conservation

The ACE Program, initiated by NYPA, NYSCC, and NYSDEC, seeks to acquire easements from property owners along Lake Ontario tributaries to improve public fishing access and conservation. Compensation will be provided to landowners for these easements, which will be held by NYS DEC to ensure public access and protect fish habitat.

Stemming from the success of the Fall Fishing program, the ACE Program addresses concerns about limited access and overcrowding at certain tributaries, aiming to enhance environmental resilience and angling opportunities in Western New York. Stakeholders have responded positively to increased flows in tributaries, prompting the launch of the ACE Program to further improve fishing experiences while conserving natural resources.
