Notice to Mariners

Champlain Canal – Fort Edward to Smiths Basin

September 1, 2021

Mariners are advised that due to an ongoing construction project in the Glens Falls Feeder, the summit water elevation between Champlain Canal Lock C-8 (Fort Edward) and Lock C-9 (Smiths Basin) is now 20” lower than normal and may drop to 24” lower than normal.

It is anticipated that water levels in this area will return to normal navigation levels by this weekend.

Updates to follow.

Additionally, to lessen the impact to navigation, the schedule of lockings at Lock C-7, Lock C-8, and Lock C-9 will be as follows:

--Northbound Lockings on the Even Hours

--Southbound Lockings on the Odd Hours

A chart covering the affected area can be found at https://www.canals.ny.gov/navinfo/charts/14786c05l.webp
