Notice to Mariners

Eastern Erie Canal – Waterford, Amsterdam, and Canajoharie

June 14, 2021

Mariners are advised of underwater lock and terminal wall inspections on the following days at the following Eastern Erie Canal areas:

• Wednesday, June 16, 2021 – Erie Canal Lock E-2 to Lock E-6, Waterford Flight will be closed at 8:00 am. It is anticipated that the Waterford Flight will reopen at noon.
• Thursday, June 17, 2021 – Erie Canal Lock E-14 in Canajoharie, NW/Upper right approach wall
• Friday, June 18, 2021 – Amsterdam Terminal Wall, on the north side of the navigation channel, just east of the NY Route 30 Bridge (19A) over the Erie Canal

Delays may occur, so plan itineraries accordingly.  It is suggested that mariners contact Lock E-14 by phone at (518) 673-3314 prior to coming within VHF range to make the lock tender aware of the intended transit, and to get updates on expected delays.

Inspection areas will be marked by diver’s flags and buoys. Boaters should reduce speed, stop all forward motion, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed when transiting these areas.
