Notice to Mariners

Erie Canal – Herkimer

June 9, 2021

Mariners are advised that a channel encroachment exists due to dredging operations just to the west of the Mohawk Street Bridge (E-36) over the Erie Canal in Herkimer.               

When transiting this area boaters should use the north side of the navigation channel. Use caution and proceed at a "No Wake" speed of not more than 5 mph and be aware of submerged cables in the work area.

Please contact the dredge operator on Marine Channel 13 before proceeding through the area.

Dredging operations are conducted every Tuesday to Friday, from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm and anticipated to be completed by the end of this June 2021.
