Notice to Mariners

Erie Canal – Mentz

May 14, 2021

Mariners are advised that NY Route 38 Bridge (E-85) over the Erie Canal in the town of Mentz, painting activity schedule has been extended to the end of the day on Thursday, May 27, 2021. Normal overhead clearance is reduced to 20.5 feet by scaffolding beneath the bridge over the navigation channel. BRIDGE CLEANING signs are posted on both sides of the bridge. Yellow lights are located on the scaffolding to alert boaters to the hazard.

Boaters should reduce speed, stop all forward motion, blow horns, and proceed at a "No-Wake" speed when traversing this area.
