Notice to Mariners

 Champlain Canal - Whitehall

September 27, 2024

 

Mariners are advised that a bridge inspection will be occurring on the Champlain Canal on the following schedule:

  • Monday, September 30th – Route 4 Bridge (C-29) over Champlain Canal, Whitehall, Washington County.

 

This bridge will be inspected using an Under Bridge Inspection Unit, which will be deployed from the deck of the bridge. Channel width may be reduced, and slight delays may occur due to a skiff moving below the bridge.

Mariners should reduce speed, stop all forward motion, sound horns, and proceed at a "No Wake" speed and under no circumstances shall any vessel exceed 5mph.

The Canal system is scheduled to close to navigation at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. All vessel operators should plan their trips to ensure they exit the system by that time.
