Water Levels at Vischer Ferry Dam to be Lowered Briefly
for Opening of Juvenile Fish Passage August 20 & 21
The New York Power Authority, with the assistance of the Canal Corporation, will be closing the adult fish passage and opening the juvenile fish passage at the Vischer Ferry Project during the week of August 19th, 2024.
The schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, August 20
Overnight: A gradual drawdown begins at Vischer Ferry as levels between Mohawk River/Erie Canal Lock E-7 and Lock E-8 are lowered. Water levels will drop between 2 and 3 feet, depending on river flows at the time. The water drawdown is completed by Wednesday morning. (Elevation 210.5’ Barge Canal Datum)
Wednesday, August 21
Morning: Water levels at Vischer Ferry 0.5’ below crest by AM. The juvenile fish passage will be opened on Dam F, with the water levels starting to rise by 12:00 PM. (Elevation 210.5’ BCD) Water levels at Vischer Ferry will return to normal navigation season levels in approximately 24 to 48 hours, depending on the river flow. (Elevation 213.1’ BDC)
