Notice to Mariners

Champlain and Erie Canals

August 9, 2024

 

Mariners are advised of underwater inspections occurring on the Champlain and Erie Canals starting on the following schedule:

  • Monday, August 12th – Champlain Canal Lock C-7 to C-8 (Fort Edward) – Culvert Below the Navigation Channel
  • Tuesday, August 13th – Erie Canal Lock E-19 to Lock E-20, (Frankfort to Whitesboro) – Culvert Below the Navigation Channel and Utica Harbor Lock Lift Gate
  • Tuesday, August 13th – Erie Canal Lock E-20 (Whitesboro) – Southeast Approach Wall
  • Wednesday, August 14th – Erie Canal Lock E-18 to Lock E-20, (Jacksonburg to Whitesboro) - Culvert Below the Navigation Channel and Guard Gate 5, Below Mohawk St. Bridge (E-36
  • Thursday, August 15th – Erie Canal Lock E-17, (Little Falls) – Retaining Wall Above the Lock
  • Thursday, August 15th – Erie Canal Lock E-18 to Lock E-19, (Jacksonburg to Frankfort) – Culvert Below the Navigation Channel, Above Lock E-18

    

The inspection areas will be marked by commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters should use caution and proceed at a "No Wake" speed of not more than 5 mph in this area.
