Notice to Mariners
Erie Canal
July 12, 2024
Mariners are advised of underwater inspections occurring on the Erie and Oswego Canals on the following schedule:
- Tuesday, July 16 – Erie Canal West Guard Lock (Rochester)
- Wednesday, July 17 – Erie Canal Lock E-24 (Baldwinsville) Taintor Gate, east of the lock and Taintor Gate National Grid Power Race, above the lock
- Thursday, July 18 – Erie Canal Lock E-23 (Brewerton) Guard Gate, above the lock
The inspection areas will be marked by commercial diver’s flags while divers are in the water. Boaters should reduce speed and proceed at a "No Wake" speed when transiting these areas. Charts showing the affected areas can be found at
