Oswego Canal – Lock O-1 Phoenix

The Canal Corporation today announced the following update regarding Oswego Canal Lock O-1 (Phoenix):

Attention Boaters:

  • On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the Canal Corporation will manually raise the Culvert Street (bascule) Lift Bridge (O-4) north of Oswego Canal Lock O-1 starting at 9:00 am to allow for passage of higher air draft vessels in the immediate area of Lock O-1 and Three Rivers Junction.  At 11:00 am the bridge will return to its lowered position.
  • On Tuesday, May 28, 2024, Erie Canal Lock E-23 (Brewerton) and Erie Canal Lock E-24 (Baldwinsville) will open for passage at 7:00 am.
  • If the Culvert Street Lift Bridge is not fully repaired and operational before Saturday, June 1, 2024, the Canal Corporation will again manually raise the bridge to allow for higher air draft vessel passage on that date.  The first locking at Lock O-1 will occur at 8:00 am with the final locking of the day for higher air draft vessels occurring at 6:00 pm.
  • Full width capability at Lock O-1 has been restored but will only be accommodated on an as-needed basis until permanent repairs to the upper left gate can be completed. 

Attention Motorists:

  • The Culvert Street Lift Bridge will be closed to motorized vehicle traffic as follows:
    • Tuesday, May 28, 2024, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
    • Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
    • Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
    • Friday, May 31, 2024, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm
    • Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
  • Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour route when the bridge is closed.The Canal Corporation appreciates the patience of the mariners and residents while this work is underway.
