The Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation) incumbent reports to the Engineer in charge of the Bureau of Asset Management, Professional Engineer 3 (Civil/Transportation) or their designee and will be responsible for engineering duties supporting the Asset Management of a large portfolio of locks, bridges, buildings, roads, retaining walls, water control structures, breakwaters, guide structures, culverts, multiuse trails, and other civil infrastructure, also including Fleet, Equipment and Marine assets. Under the direct supervision of higher-level professional engineering staff, the incumbent performs the following engineering and engineering related duties:
- Maintains and updates Canals asset inventory data which includes civil infrastructure, marine vessels, fleet & equipment assets, utilizing various software systems including but limited to the Canal Infrastructure Management (CIMS), Maximo Enterprise Asset Management, and ARI Fleet Management.
- Provides general engineering support for the projects across the Bureau of Asset Management.
- Assists in preparing reports, plans, presentations, updating manuals, and with the development of policies and procedures.
- Participates in Canals Drone program in various roles.
- Completes field work and site visits as necessary to support Asset Management.
- Performs a variety of additional tasks as assigned
Candidates must be reachable for appointment on the Civil Service eligible list for Engineer Trainee (Civil/Transportation) or Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation) OR candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service in a title eligible for transfer under the provisions of Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
